We we wanted to learn more about a talented unkown rapper we've heard about, Matt Kelly "aka" M5ive. On the day of the interview, we did not know what to expect from Matt. To be honest, I was a little skeptical and expected the stereotypical rapper bravado. Once I met Matt, all my preconceived notions of Southern rap artists were thrown out the window.
Matt Kelly was very well mannered and well spoken. I don't know why I expected less. Maybe it's due to the way rap artists are portrayed in the music industry. I should have known better not to judge a book by its cover. Matt's articulate nature led me to another dilemma. Matt touched on so many interesting and provocative topics such as drugs, suburban life, parents and more, I asked myself. Should I edit Matt's interview for time, sacrificing the quality content and message, or keep his message at the risk of losing the viewer? After all, 3 minutes is the average attention span for watching videos on the web. I decided on the latter.
Matt had a story to tell which I decided should not be cut short due to time constraints. His story is very interesting and he is very insightful as he elaborates on each topic . In the music industry it takes more than just lyrical skills to make it. Along with his raw lyrical story telling skills, Matt is very intelligent and has a demeanor any music agent or manager would appreciate. Matt Kelly "aka" M5ive is a refreshing, original artist with a message.
